Privacy Policy

The short version: Filters looks at your photos on your device, and stops there. No photo, and nothing derived from a photo, is ever sent anywhere.

What Filters analyses

To let you search by colour, Filters has to read your photo library. It measures, for each photo, which colours dominate the frame and by how much, how much visual detail the picture carries, and which of six subject categories it appears to contain. Subject recognition uses Apple’s Vision framework, which runs entirely on your device.

All of this analysis happens locally. No image is uploaded, no image is sent to a classification service, and no model is fetched mid-query.

The index

The results of that analysis are stored in a local cache on your device — a small set of numbers per photo: dominant colour and share, second colour and share, a busyness score, subject tags, and the identifier Photos uses to refer to the asset. This index is what your queries actually search, which is why results are instant.

The index never leaves your device, is not backed up to any server we operate, and is deleted when you delete the app.

Photo library access

Filters asks for access to your photo library through the standard iOS permission prompt, and you can grant full access or select individual photos. Filters reads your library; it never writes to it. It does not edit, move, delete, or re-tag your photos. The favourite flag it filters on is one you set yourself in Photos — Filters only reads it.

What is not collected

• No account, sign-in, or profile.
• No analytics on what is in your library — not per-photo, not aggregated, not anonymised.
• No advertising identifiers, no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.
• No location data beyond what Photos already holds about your own photos, which Filters reads but never transmits.

Purchases

Pro is purchased through Apple’s In-App Purchase system. Apple handles the transaction and tells Filters only whether an entitlement is active. Your payment details are never seen by, or available to, Filters or its developer. Apple’s own privacy policy governs that transaction.

Support email

If you email hello@filters.app, we hold that email — and your address — for as long as it takes to answer you and keep a record of the issue. We do not add you to a mailing list. Please do not send photographs unless you specifically want us to look at one; we would rather not have them.

Children

Filters is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects what Filters does with your data, the change will be described here and dated. Given the design — nothing leaves the device — a material change would mean a change to the app itself, and would be announced as one.
